In this compact book, Heldman introduces project management, covering a lot of ground in a small space. The style is far more informal than, say, Rothman's book. All the most commonly-used techniques are discussed, giving a balanced view of the range of tasks that a project manager must undertake.

The book is designed to match the syllabus of the PMI's PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), presenting it in a more accessible and conversational style.

The section on Discovering Requirements is brief but sensible and pragmatic. It covers goals, requirements, assumptions and constraints.

This is a valuable and dependable starting point for first-timers in project management.
